STRUTTING INTO THE 21ST CHAPTER OF MY LIFE IN STYLE

Welcome back, Style Kat!

My birthday was on April 17 and let me just say, I feel truly blessed to have received so much love. Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, it was absolutely lovely.

 

Nearly a month or two before my birthday, I was sleuthing through Pinterest for inspiration on how I wanted to create my photoshoot. I was teetering between doing an indoor or outdoor shoot until I stumbled across this photo:

I was drawn to the camera angle, the golden lighting and the flow of her birthday dress. Her crown is beautiful and the bundle of balloons were a fabulous touch.

Ever since my 16th birthday (other than my 17th), I wear a pink dress. I knew that the ambiance I was aiming for was enchanting, chic, whimsical, soft and feminine. And, a dash of sexiness.

I found the perfect pink dress on HouseofCB.com that fit the vision I had for my look. I’m particular about finding the right ensembles for my shoots. What locked my eyes on this dress was its beautiful light pink hue, it was floor length with a deep v-cut with chiffon fabric, which flows freely whenever you take a step. Bingo!

Once I got the dress secured and altered (not going to lie, when it arrived the zipper on the back of the dress was torn up), I purchased my birthday crown on Amazon.com, which arrived punctually, in great condition and quality. And, I bought these beautiful statement studs (similar pair here) from ALDO. Thankfully, I saved my coins on shoes; I wore a pair of rose gold Steve Madden sandals called “Satire.”

I decided to choose Elegance Davis, photographer and founder of Elegance Creations, to capture my birthday pictures because of the impressive work I’ve seen on his Instagram profile, @elegance_creations. He exceeded my expectations and truly blew me away with his ability to bring my vision to life, in a way that is distinct to me.

What truly made this shoot special for me, was including my parents. They are my everything and the greatest blessing in my life. Words could never adequately describe how much I love them and they love me. Check out my lookbook for more pictures of my photoshoot, shot by Elegance Davis.

Special thank you and shout out to Melissa Ford for taking the time to wish me a happy birthday! She is one of many empowering women I that admire. Most recognize her as Rihanna’s childhood best friend, but I’m inspired by her work ethic and sense of style. Plus, we’re both Aries (her birthday is April 9) and I can relate to her personality.

Who else is in the Aries Gang? I was blessed to see another year of life and begin the 21st chapter of my life. I am a work in progress, but I love who am I, who I’m becoming and who I will be one day. I can’t wait to celebrate with my closest friends this weekend!
