Kathryn in New York City

Welcome back, Style Kat!

I cannot believe I’m a senior in college now! It’s crazy how fast time flies.

A few months ago, I was talking to my childhood friend, Rochelle (aka, Chelly) who I hadn’t seen in almost 10 years, when she invited me to visit her in New York. I was more than happy to visit her.

This summer is the busiest that I’ve been in a long time. Between summer school, work and my Art Meso internship, I was definitely down for a quick trip before starting the fall semester.

Rochelle and I met each other years ago through a national organization called Jack and Jill of America Inc. She and I were in different chapters in Florida and met during a community service trip. We’ve been close ever since.

Day One:

Praise God, I had a smooth flight to New York. Once I arrived, I waited until Rochelle picked me up. When I saw her white BMW pull up, I could not stop smiling. I was literally squealing and jumping for joy when I saw her.

(she didn’t want to show her face in the video, which is why I have my phone pointed at the ground the whole time)

A while ago, Rochelle introduced me to her friend, Jessy who’s also a style blogger. I could tell that Jessy would be so much fun to hang out with. We got dolled up and hit the town together. Jessy took me to a bodega that sold .99 cent pizza, which was pretty good. I bought Rochelle and I a slice of pepperoni pizza, but the man who took my order finessed an extra dollar out of me. My slice was a buck and hers was $2. I knew that wasn’t right, but I didn’t make it a big deal *laughs*.

Day Two:

The second day of my trip was spent eating an amazing brunch in Bellmore, NY at the Morning Rose Cafe.

And, I finally got to rock one of my favorite dress that my friend, Bianca customized for her “Imprints” runway collection.

After brunch, we walked around the quaint little town and enjoyed the beautiful sunny day in style.

We did some shopping afterwards and got our cardio in by waling around the Roosevelt Mall–the biggest mall I have ever visited aside from Lenox in Atlanta. I was so overwhelmed by all of stores and sales that were happening. I felt like a kid in a candy store, honestly.

Day Three:

On the last day of my trip, the main goal was to visit Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment from Sex and the City, played by Sarah Jessica Parker. I am a huge fan of the show and it has always been a dream of mine to visit her fabulous apartment. I saved one of my best looks specifically for that occasion.

Of course I had to whip out my Christian Louboutin’s for this moment because of Carrie’s infamous designer shoe addiction.

I wish we were allowed to tour the inside of the apartment, but it was blocked off and I was not about to pay a hefty fine for trespassing. I was just happy to be there and cross it off my bucket list.

Next, Rochelle and I visited Time’s Square and it was incredible. The last time I was in New York, was in 2012 with FAMU for a global security summer program I was involved in. To see it again six years later felt so nostalgic.

As Rochelle was snapping some pictures of me, I happened to look over and noticed that a photographer was taking pics of me also. After my impromptu photoshoot, I introduced myself and learned that the photographer, Sekou Diarra was the wiz behind the lens. I love the way the pictures turned out:

Kimono: Kim + Ono
Bodysuit: Forever 21
Jeans: American Eagle
Bag: ALDO
Heels: Christian Louboutin (only size 11 and 11.5 available)

After we had our fun in Time’s Square, Rochelle’s sister, Javia, invited us out to a lounge with her guy friends and it was a blast. The guys were so New York–I loved their swag and how much fun they were to be around. Everyone had a great time and it was a great way to end my trip.

It’s safe to say that New York will always have a place in my heart. I met so many amazing people while I was there and hopefully, I will see them again soon. I wish I could’ve stayed longer for New York Fashion Week, but unfortunately it interferes with school. I will be there next year though! Speaking it into existence.

Which is your favorite look from my New York trip? What places should I visit the next time I’m in the city and what restaurants do you recommend?

Keep on Styling!
XOXO,
